“Make It Green” Project: Tackling Climate Change Through Reforestation

We’re excited to announce that £6,880 has been donated towards the “Make It Green” project, an initiative spearheaded by the African Palms Association to combat the devastating effects of climate change in Tanzania. This project focuses on reforestation in the Masasi region, which has been significantly impacted by deforestation over the past 40 years.

The Climate Crisis in Tanzania

The climate in Tanzania is changing rapidly due to the effects of global climate change and decades of deforestation. These challenges have left local communities struggling with unpredictable weather patterns and diminishing resources.

To address these issues, the “Make It Green” project aims to restore the region’s natural environment by planting trees and empowering the community to take meaningful action.

A Simple Yet Powerful Solution: Planting Trees

Between 2025 and 2030, the “Make It Green” initiative, led by the diocese, will oversee the planting of:

  • 5000 Pine Caribbean trees
  • 2500 Teak trees
  • 2500 Caritas trees
  • 100 Banana trees
  • 500 Pawpaw trees
  • 1000 Dragon fruit trees

This reforestation effort will not only improve the local environment but also provide long-term benefits such as increased biodiversity, better soil quality, and additional sources of food and income for the community.

Educating the Next Generation

A vital aspect of the project is its focus on education and engagement. Students involved in planting these trees are learning about the importance of environmental conservation and how their efforts can combat the climate crisis. As seen in the accompanying photo, the students are eager and ready to contribute to this impactful mission.

The project is part of a broader initiative to raise awareness about climate change, emphasize the urgency of action, and foster a culture of sustainability locally and globally.
