At African Palms, we are proud to announce a donation of £16,620 towards the Mpeta Water and Solar Project—an initiative designed to bring sustainable solutions to Mpeta Secondary School, located in one of the villages where our cherished Palm Crosses are made.
The Challenges at Mpeta Secondary School
Currently, the students at Mpeta Secondary School face significant challenges due to water shortages and an unreliable power supply. Here’s what they’re up against:
- Insufficient Water Supply: Students are forced to spend valuable time fetching water that is often contaminated, exposing them to waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
- Power Instability: Frequent power cuts from the national grid leave students in darkness, making it difficult to study and prepare for exams. Many rely on mobile lamps, which are not always available and disrupt night classes.
A Permanent Solution: Clean Water and Reliable Power
The Mpeta Water and Solar Project will provide:
- Sustainable Access to Clean Water: This ensures improved health by eliminating waterborne diseases and freeing up time for students to focus on their education.
- Constant Power Supply: Solar energy will replace unreliable electricity, offering uninterrupted lighting for evening classes and creating a better learning environment.
This initiative is a lifeline for the students, empowering them to achieve their full potential while fostering improved health, education, and wellbeing. By removing these barriers, we are helping to shape a brighter future for the boys and girls of Mpeta Secondary School.
