In August 2024, £8,000 was donated towards a water project at Ndwika School in partnership with the Tanzania Development Trust (TDT). This initiative covered the drilling operation costs for a borehole, addressing a critical need for clean and accessible water at the historic school.
Ndwika School, established as an Anglican church school in 1911, transitioned to government control in the 1970s. Recently, the school expanded its capacity by welcoming 300 additional girls, bringing the total number of boarders to 900 students. While this growth signifies progress, it also placed immense pressure on the school’s limited water resources.
To meet these needs, the school took responsibility for essential infrastructure, including:
The donation funded the borehole drilling, providing the school with a sustainable source of clean water.
On a cold, wet morning in January 2025, we received uplifting news—the project had been successfully completed! The school shared these heartfelt words:
“We also extend our sincere gratitude to Africa Palms and TDT for responding to our
call for help and reaching out to us hastily. We hope that they will continue touching
lives and changing stories of many other Tanzanians the way they did to us.”
These words serve as a powerful reminder of the life-changing impact that clean water can have on communities.
The successful implementation of this project has:

In September 2024, £9,000 was donated to fund the construction of a borehole as part of the Mtandi Water Project. This initiative, deeply connected to the Revd Talbot and his wife Shirley, will bring clean water and sanitation to over 9,848 people in the Mtandi community.
The project will directly benefit students at both the Mtandi Primary School and the Mtandi Mission School, providing a reliable source of clean water and improving sanitation facilities. With access to safe water, children can focus on their education rather than spending valuable time collecting water from unsafe sources.
A unique aspect of the Mtandi Water Project is its focus on community involvement and environmental preservation. The initiative includes:
By improving access to clean water and fostering environmental awareness, the Mtandi Water Project will not only reduce the prevalence of waterborne illnesses but also promote community resilience and sustainability. This initiative embodies the mission of empowering communities through meaningful change.

In November 2024, £2,801.89 was donated via the Tanzania Development Trust to fund a vital project for the Mdughuyu Community Dispensary—a critical healthcare facility that serves over 3,224 residents in Mdughuyu Village, Tanzania.
The Mdughuyu Dispensary has long been a lifeline for the community, but its ability to fully operate has been hindered by the absence of a reliable water supply. While a borehole was successfully drilled within the village, its location—over 4 kilometers away from the dispensary—has created a significant barrier to access.
This project will address the issue by connecting the borehole to the dispensary through essential infrastructure, including:
By providing clean water, this project will enable the dispensary to offer consistent healthcare services and improve hygiene standards for the community. Reliable water access will also:

In November 2024, £8,900 was donated to the Chikunja Water Project—a transformative initiative aimed at improving access to clean water and basic sanitation for the Napata village in the Masasi region.
The Masasi region faces significant challenges due to a lack of clean water. This shortage has led to widespread waterborne illnesses that disproportionately affect women, girls, and the elderly. The Chikunja Water Project is tackling this crisis by bringing clean, safe water to the village and improving sanitation infrastructure.
By providing clean water and better sanitation, the Chikunja Water Project is expected to reduce the prevalence of waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and typhoid. This will also ease the burden on local health facilities, allowing them to focus on other pressing healthcare needs.

We’re excited to announce that £6,880 has been donated towards the “Make It Green” project, an initiative spearheaded by the African Palms Association to combat the devastating effects of climate change in Tanzania. This project focuses on reforestation in the Masasi region, which has been significantly impacted by deforestation over the past 40 years.
The climate in Tanzania is changing rapidly due to the effects of global climate change and decades of deforestation. These challenges have left local communities struggling with unpredictable weather patterns and diminishing resources.
To address these issues, the “Make It Green” project aims to restore the region’s natural environment by planting trees and empowering the community to take meaningful action.
Between 2025 and 2030, the “Make It Green” initiative, led by the diocese, will oversee the planting of:
This reforestation effort will not only improve the local environment but also provide long-term benefits such as increased biodiversity, better soil quality, and additional sources of food and income for the community.
A vital aspect of the project is its focus on education and engagement. Students involved in planting these trees are learning about the importance of environmental conservation and how their efforts can combat the climate crisis. As seen in the accompanying photo, the students are eager and ready to contribute to this impactful mission.
The project is part of a broader initiative to raise awareness about climate change, emphasize the urgency of action, and foster a culture of sustainability locally and globally.
By supporting projects like “Make It Green,” you’re helping communities in Tanzania address the challenges of climate change head-on. Every contribution makes a difference—whether through direct donations or by purchasing African Palm Crosses.(click here >)

The Miungo Water Project in Tanzania's Mtwara region has significantly transformed the lives of local villagers by providing access to clean and safe water. Funded with £5,300 from African Palms, the project was completed in 2014 and has been a resounding success.
Prior to the project's implementation, villagers faced the arduous task of collecting water from distant and often contaminated sources, leading to health issues and time constraints. The introduction of a reliable water supply has alleviated these challenges, improving overall health and freeing up time for education and economic activities.
The headmaster of the local school reported a significant increase in student attendance and performance, as children no longer need to spend hours fetching water. This improvement has had a positive ripple effect on the community, enhancing educational outcomes and future opportunities for the youth.
In 2015, additional funds were provided to extend the pipeline to Chipinpinbi, further expanding the reach of clean water access to neighboring communities.
The success of the Miungo Water Project exemplifies the profound impact that access to clean water can have on rural communities, fostering improved health, education, and overall quality of life.
